Several Indian States Are Setting The Precedent For EVs

More than 12 states in India are pushing for electric vehicles (EVs) including Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, etc. Though in some of the states the bill is in the process of approval, most have already approved it. Recently Uttar Pradesh has made a push towards bringing EVs into mainstream transportation.

UP government under its EV policy offers 100% tax exemption for electric two-wheelers and 75% for other EVs, along with incentives on land for the first 1,000 charging stations. Likewise, Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Punjab offer 100% road tax exemption, and other incentives on the purchase of EVs. Orissa plans to have a minimum of 20% EVs on road by 2025. Similarly, each state has its own targets regarding the number of vehicles, transformation ratios, and setting up the hard infrastructure for sustaining EVs.
