The scientists from Tokyo University have announced a unique achievement of developing edible cement made entirely out of food waste.
The material scientists with a novel process managed to process the food waste such as cabbage leaves and orange peels and transform them into biodegradable and eco-friendly edible cement. The scientists highlighted that the cement is fully safe to use in the construction of homes. According to researchers, the tensile strength of edible cement is almost four times stronger than traditional cement.
The scientists employed simple mixers and compressors to perform the process includes three-step of drying, pulverisation and compression.
Kota Machida who is one of the researchers from Tokyo University highlighted that the aim of the research is to replace the plastic and traditional cement products from the construction industry to lower the negative environmental impacts.
