Prateek Kanakia, chairman and founder of TGBL, stated that this is India's first attempt to recover hydrogen from trash. By the end of the year, the plant will be treating 350 tonnes of solid waste each day, she added.

"We intend to generate 10 tonnes of hydrogen daily from 350 tonnes of solid trash. We are constructing the factory at Pune's Hadapsar Industrial Area. This is India's first attempt to recover hydrogen from garbage ", she said.

The firm has allocated Rs 350 crore to build the plant and the corporation would spend an additional Rs 82 crore to build the storage facility and logistical support. The Pune Municipal Council would pay TGBL Rs 347 per tonne as a tipping charge for rubbish treatment. Kanakia stated that the first 10-tonne reactor will be installed by November 2023, with the full project expected to be completed by November 2024.

According to PMC officials, Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL), a central public sector enterprise, will provide project management consulting, and Variate Pune Waste to Energy Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of TGBL, will carry out the project to convert Pune's municipal non-recyclable waste into hydrogen.
