A couple hailing from Madurai, India, Krishnan Subramanian, and Gowri Gopinath launched YellowBag in 2014 with the aim of addressing the alarming increase in urban plastic pollution.
Because they saw a need for more sustainable and environmentally friendly options, they planned to go back to their hometown and live a minimalist lifestyle. In the beginning, the business relied on word-of-mouth advertising and partnerships with local tailors to satisfy customer demand for cloth bags. To devote 2019 to expanding their business, they left their employment.
The term "Manjappai," meaning a cloth bag of yellow color, is the origin of the name "YellowBag" in Tamil. Sustainable and environmentally friendly, the company's cotton and jute bags are available for a variety of uses. Bags for packing, garment protection, totes, and drawstring bags are all part of the product line. Products can be found in the price range of 20 to 200 rupees.
The company promotes its products via its website and social media channels, as well as in its own office. Their daily output ranges from 2,000 to 3,000 bags, and they've made 3 crore rupees in revenue. Many have been moved by the couple's story, and they are now lending their voices to the positivity movement in India. No amount is too small to make a difference; together, we can bring more stories that inspire hope and encourage dreams.
