A mega e-waste collection drive was jointly launched on Monday by the Lions Club International and the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry. They started the massive e-waste collection drive in Madurai to raise public awareness about environmental protection.
This e-waste drive has been taken up by Lions Clubs as a major project across the country, and in Madurai, Lions District 324-B is implementing it in partnership with TN Chamber. At the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce in Madurai, the e-waste collection was launched today in the presence of the chamber's president, Dr. N. Jegatheesan, the past district governor of Lions District 324-B, Ln. R. Monikantan, as well as other members of the chamber and Lions Clubs.

Dr. Jegatheesan stated that e-waste creates a hazardous situation for the environment and human health. "We need to raise public awareness and begin collecting electronic waste from homes and businesses. For the benefit of future generations, this is crucial. E-waste management is crucial, and the Lions Clubs' initiative to launch this e-waste collection is to be applauded," he continued.
According to Ln. Monikantan, the Hindustan e-waste management company has a contract with the Lions Clubs International of India and will perform various stages of segregation after collecting devices at various locations. At the TN Chamber and the Union Club in Madurai, the Lions Clubs are collecting the e-waste materials. This exercise will continue through February 13 in Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Sivaganga, etc.
According to the organizers, this is a positive step toward improving the world for the coming generations. Up until February 13, members of the public can contribute by giving away their working electronics, such as old power banks, printers, keyboards, and televisions.
