The draft also reads that Japan intends to remove a goal for all new car and van sales in G7 countries to be "zero-emission vehicles" by 2035. Earlier Reuters reported that Japan’s automobile industry and the global car manufacturer Toyota lobbied against the goal of fully electrifying the vehicles and vouched for fossil fuel-powered vehicles and said that there must be a variety for selection such as hybrid and fossil fuel-powered vehicles and policies must not restrict to electric vehicles. Japan is a crucial member of the G7 group and this move could impact the global target of decarbonizing road transportation.
