In an attempt to build a sustainable environment, Indore’s Central Jail prisoners developed eco-friendly Ganesha idols. The unique idols are made from clay with a seed of fruits or flower plants in the centre. The report published by ANI reported that the Central Jail Superintendent, Dr Alka Sonkar mentioned that these idols made by the prisoners have seeds immersed in them and they can be used to plant trees after the Ganesha Chaturthi.
Ganesha Chaturthi is one of the most popular festivals among Hindus and every year thousands of idols are sold. Idols made from clay and other eco-friendly items could avoid ground and water pollution and pave the way for a sustainable Ganesha Chaturthi.
Dr Alka further added that prisoners have made more than 200 eco-friendly idols and they will be sold to the citizens through the jail store. Apart from the small idols, a big statue of Bal Ganesh is being created by the prisoners, which will be placed inside the jail itself on Ganesh Chaturthi.
