India ranked last in the Environment Performance Index 2022

The latest Environment Performance Index report 2022 released by the Yale University, Columbia University and McCall MacBain Foundation ranked India last among the 180 assessed countries.

The EPI measures countries' environmental health and sustainability and gave India the lowest score of 18.9 after Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Myanmar. Denmark was ranked with the highest EPI score of 77.90 making it the most sustainable country, followed by the United Kingdom with an EPI of 77.70 and Finland with 76.50.

The research measures 40 climate action parameters including improvement in environmental health, and policies aiming to protect the ecosystem and mitigate climate change. The released data named India the least environmentally sustainable country in the world. According to EPI, India managed to score 27.6 and was ranked 168th in the EPI-2020 report but unfortunately this year it fell down to the 180th spot.
