According to a senior CMO official, the model colony for Satabhaya's displaced villagers will be built at Bagapatia in Kendrapara district at a cost of Rs. 22.5 crores in the first phase, five years after 530 families from a group of villages were forced to flee their homes after the rising sea devoured them.

"The sanctioned funds will be used for the construction of houses, drinking water, electricity connections, roads, and other facilities for the displaced people," claimed an unnamed official.

He also stated that the state government intends to offer agricultural land to Satabhaya people who have lost their livelihoods as a result of coastline erosion.

"This would be India's first colony for people displaced by climate change," he remarked. Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has requested that the Panchubarahi temple in the area be developed as a tourist attraction.
