Essar Energy Transition (EET) Hydrogen is in the final stages of negotiations with the UK Government to develop a low-carbon hydrogen plant in Ellesmere. The plant, with an initial production capacity of 350 MW, is set to commence construction later this year. The hydrogen produced will be supplied to industrial businesses in the North West of England to aid in decarbonizing their operations, fostering economic growth, and preserving jobs.
The signing of a statement of principles signifies a key agreement milestone between EET Hydrogen and the UK Government. Final negotiations will now take place, with the aim of reaching a final decision later in the year. Lord Callanan, Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance, highlighted the role of hydrogen in achieving the UK's net-zero goals, emphasizing the potential for low-carbon hydrogen to support up to 12,000 jobs by 2030.
Essar Energy Transition, launched in 2023, plans to invest $3.6 billion in various low-carbon energy transition projects over the next five years, with a significant portion allocated to the Stanlow site.
