High Court’s furious remarks on Delhi pollution, says we cannot close our eyes to the truth

The Delhi High Court on Monday made some scathing remarks while taking a tough stand on the situation of pollution in the national capital. The Delhi High Court said it cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that the air quality in the national capital is oscillating between 'very poor' and 'severe'. The court noted that the air quality was 'severe' during the past few weeks and has moved into the 'very poor' category with marginal improvement. This has not happened due to government efforts. The improvement that is being seen at present is due to the high-speed winds.

A bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramaniam Prasad of the Delhi High Court asked senior advocate Kailash Vasdev to file a report along with suggestions on measures taken to afforestation and tree plantation in the city within four weeks as the present relief is lenient. It is due to winds and not due to plantation. Senior advocate Kailash Vasdev is assisting the court as an amicus curiae in the matter of air pollution in Delhi.

Justice Prasad said that we cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that for the past few weeks we have been breathing between 'severe' and 'very poor' categories of AQI of air. We all live in the capital of the country, Delhi. In such a situation, when we are seeing so many constructions works in forest areas flouting the rules, should we close our eyes. Indiscriminate construction works are going on in Delhi. It didn't happen overnight. The people responsible for this know everything. If there is no land left in Delhi, then from where will you plant trees?
