Several cities are taking the initiative of naming cyclones starting this year. Seville, Spain will become the first city to start naming severe heat waves; Los Angeles, Miami, Milwaukee, Kansas City, Missouri, and Athens — have also designed a similar initiative. In 2000 a group of countries comprising  Bangladesh, India, the Maldives, Myanmar, Oman, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Thailand proposed cyclones be named for easier identification and public awareness.

Severe heat waves like cyclones are going to be handled the same way because they need more public attention so disasters can be avoided and better solutions can be designed. Most of India’s northern plains witnessed severe heat waves in the month of April/May because of the rising avg temperature. The latest report from IPCC also suggested that extreme heat waves will become more and more frequent in coming years, and human activities are the primary driving forces of this.
