Transition to clean energy not an option anymore, it’s a compulsion: Mukesh Ambani

Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani, on Wednesday pointed to climate change as the biggest threat to mankind and called for a green industrial revolution. Mr Ambani in his address pointed out how the industrial revolution disrupted the ecosystem and triggered imbalances in the environment

He also recognised the fact that nations or regions that produce enough energy to fulfill their needs grow faster and become more powerful over time, he cited the examples of Europe and America. He also stressed the importance of green sources of energy in dividing the geopolitical landscape of the world in coming decades.

His company Reliance industries is investing heavily into green hydrogen production, with an upcoming plant in Gujarat, in which the company is investing Rs 5 Trillion aims to achieve 100 gigawatt of power. The Indian government has also set an ambitious deadline for converting 50% of domestic energy needs into renewable energy by the year 2030, which means generating 500GW of power through green sources. Also, India at the COP26 has declared that it will go completely carbon neutral by the year 2070.
