Global temperature to surpass the 1.5 degrees Celsius mark by 2025, UN report reveals

As per the new UN report, the world is far from being on track to meet the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement. The technical report on the first-ever Global Stocktake (GST), found that global greenhouse gas emissions are still rising, and are not on track to peak before 2025 as required to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

The report also found that there is a significant gap between the current climate pledges and what is needed to meet the Paris Agreement goals. To close this gap, the report calls for urgent action to reduce emissions, including halting deforestation, investing in renewable energy, and improving energy efficiency.

This is a stark warning that the world is running out of time to address climate change. If we do not take action now, we will face increasingly severe consequences, such as more extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and mass extinctions.

The good news is that there is still time to act. The report found that there are a number of pathways that can lead to a 1.5-degree future. However, these pathways will require significant changes to the way we produce and consume energy, as well as how we manage our forests and land.

The report also found that international cooperation is essential to achieving the Paris Agreement goals. Countries need to work together to share technologies, finance, and best practices. They also need to create a level playing field for clean energy, so that all countries can transition to a low-carbon economy.

The Paris Agreement is a landmark agreement that has the potential to avert the worst impacts of climate change. However, it will only be successful if countries take urgent action to reduce emissions. The GST report is a call to action for all countries to step up their ambition and work together to build a more sustainable future.
