"Flash Floods and Landslides Ravage Himachal Pradesh, Leaving at Least 7 Swept Away by Torrential Waters"

In a series of rain-triggered tragedies within 24 hours in Himachal Pradesh, flash floods have resulted in the loss of seven lives. A video from the Sambal village in the Mandi district vividly depicts the force of water rushing downhill, and a distressed voice can be heard repeatedly saying "oh God." Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu shared the footage, stressing ongoing rescue, search, and relief efforts in response to the "dreadful situation." The region has experienced over 50 fatalities in the past two days due to unrelenting rainfall.

Earlier incidents claimed 16 lives, including seven individuals in a cloudburst event in Solan district and nine others in a landslide at a Shiv Temple in Shimla city's Summer Hill area. Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his distress over the loss of lives and stated that National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are actively involved in relief and rescue operations. Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu urged residents to remain indoors and avoid areas near drains or rivers. He advised people to steer clear of landslide-prone regions and urged tourists not to visit during the crisis. Two landslides in Shimla city are feared to have buried 15 to 20 people, with several houses submerged in mud and slush in the Fagli area.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, as six individuals were saved after a cloudburst in Mamligh village. Two houses and a cowshed were swept away by the deluge. The state emergency operation center reported the closure of 752 roads due to the catastrophe. The heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh, along with neighboring Uttarakhand, stem from a fresh bout of Western Disturbance, according to the Indian Meteorological Department. The Monsoon trough's positioning along the foothills of the Himalayas has led to the impact of South-westerly Arabian Sea monsoonal winds on the region. Himachal Pradesh has suffered the most devastating effects of floods and landslides nationwide, with an estimated loss of ₹7020.28 crore ($942 million) due to the monsoon's onslaught.
