In Ladakh, a marathon highlighting climate change's impact on Himalayan glaciers will occur on February 20 at Pangong Lake, near the Line of Actual Control with China. This second edition, organized by the Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh (ASFL) with support from local authorities, is unique due to its frozen lake terrain at an elevation of 4,350m. Emphasizing sustainability, the event bans plastic and waste products.
Limited to 50 participants, the marathon promises adventure akin to global frozen lake races. With official recognition from Guinness World Records, its goal is to boost winter tourism and promote sustainability. Safety measures, including medical support and hot water points, ensure participant well-being.
Participants must prepare for harsh conditions and are encouraged to bring necessary gear. Beyond adventure, the marathon aims to raise awareness about Himalayan ecosystem fragility and climate change, advocating for sustainability and global cooperation.
