Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly had a discussion with Franz Timmermans, Deputy Executive President of the European Commission on Climate Change Issues, in Cairo on Sunday. The meeting was part of the ongoing preparations for the upcoming climate change conference (COP27) to be held in Cairo later this year.
During the meeting, PM Madbouly announced that Egypt has allocated areas in the Suez Canal Economic Zone for green hydrogen production. The statement was made while both the delegates discussed ways for elevating the cooperation between Egypt and the EU in the field of green energy.
Franz Timmermans announced a grant of 100 million euros to Egypt to su[pport the nation’s food security. A joint statement post-meeting was issued whereby both the officials highlighted that Egypt and the EU agreed to develop a Mediterranean Green Hydrogen Partnership for a smooth hydrogen trade between Europe, Africa and the Gulf.
