For the 'Khadi for Nation and Khadi for Fashion' event at Delhi's Prasar Bharati Secretariat, newsreaders from Doordarshan will be donning traditional Khadi attire.
At the event, the news anchors from Doordarshan India (DD India) and Hindi news station Doordarshan News (DD News) unveiled their new Khadi wardrobes. The event was organized by Khadi India and signed in September 2023 by Prasar Bharati, India's Public Service Broadcaster.
In order to bolster the program's ethos, Prasar Bharati and the Khadi Village and Industries Commission (KVIC) joined forces. Notable attendees included Manoj Kumar, Chairman of KVIC, Gaurav Dwivedi, Chief Executive Officer of Prasar Bharati, and Priya Kumar, Director General of DD News.
Mahatma Gandhi's promotion of economic independence and self-sufficiency, particularly in rural areas, is the historical origin of Khadi's significance. At the India International Trade Fair, KVIC received worldwide acclaim for sales surpassing ₹15 crore, and PM Modi is a strong advocate for promoting and popularising local companies.
By highlighting the beauty and adaptability of Khadi apparel on prestigious platforms such as Doordarshan, the event emphasizes the significance of supporting local companies. As we embrace the values of self-sufficiency and cultural legacy, we pave the road for a more mindful and environmentally sustainable future.
