Delhi government agrees to impose complete lockdown to curb air pollution

The AAP government today has informed the Supreme Court that it is ready to necessary steps such as imposing a complete lockdown to curb the air pollution in the capital.

Earlier, during the hearing on the severe condition of Delhi’s air Supreme Court slammed the AAP govt. for its incompetence in controlling the air pollution in the capital and suggested implementing a complete lockdown to improve the current situation.

However, the government suggested that the NCR region must also impose a lockdown to provide relief to Delhiites. “Such a step would be meaningful if it is implemented across the NCR areas in neighbouring states. Given Delhi's compact size, a lockdown would have a limited impact on the air quality regime,” the affidavit submitted by the AAP read.

The apex court raised concerns & highlighted the causes except the stubble burning in neighbouring states behind Delhi’s poisonous air quality and said that there are other reasons for pollution such as vehicular emissions, firecrackers and dust, and singling out stubble burning is not the solution.
