According to experts, changing climatic circumstances, notably temperature and moisture changes as a result of occurrences such as excessive rainfall in some areas and drought in others, may lead to an increase in the spread of vector-borne and infectious illnesses across India.
According to public health specialist Poornima Prabhakaran, increasing temperatures influence the pattern of transmission of disease agents such as viruses and their vectors via a variety of channels.
"These include changes in the incubation period, transmission potential, and transmission duration - all of which can impact disease trends," Prabhakaran, head of the Public Health Foundation of India's (PHFI) Centre for Environmental Health, told PTI.
The incubation period is the time between exposure to a pathogenic organism and the appearance of symptoms and indications. Prabhakaran noticed that changing climatic circumstances make viruses and their vectors more prone to spreading and disease transmission.
"Hot and humid conditions can both impact disease transmission pathways, the frequency of disease occurrence, and the severity of disease," she noted.
