Bangladesh Asking International Community For Compensation

Bangladesh is facing the worst effects of climate change despite contributing less than 1% of the world's carbon emissions. As a result, Bangladesh is now asking the international community for compensation for the harm caused by rich countries' high carbon emissions, but to no avail.

Fahmida Khatun, the executive director of the Bangladesh Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), made this statement while visiting India recently to attend the Bhopal Think 20 summit, which was run under the auspices of the G20.

Bangladesh Finding Climate Change Hard To Deal

"Though Bangladesh is unfortunate to be dealing with so many difficulties, it is not to blame for climate change. Bangladesh is susceptible to weather-related events such as storms, floods, and droughts. Internal migration is occurring as a result of natural disasters, which puts additional strain on cities, according to Khatun in an interview with Free Press.

She went on to explain the dangers of climate change, predicting that a third of Bangladesh's coastal regions will experience flooding, fisheries will disappear, there will be deforestation, and the entire ecosystem will be impacted. She added Bangladesh has adopted the National Adaptation Plan of Action to address these pressing concerns.

Due to its status as a Least Developed Country (LDC), Bangladesh is desperate to acquire modern technologies in order to boost production and compete in the global market.
