This feat was made possible by the construction of a new 198-megawatt wind farm in Osmanabad, Maharashtra, increasing the company's total wind and solar projects in India to 50. What's surprising is that Amazon is not only a global leader in corporate renewable energy purchases, but it has also recently become India's largest corporate buyer of renewable energy. This is consistent with Amazon's broader aim to power all of its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025.

Amazon's investments in wind and solar projects have had a significant positive impact on India's economy, along with the environmental benefits. These projects delivered an estimated $349 million in direct and indirect contributions to local communities between 2014 and 2022. According to Amazon's economic model, they have contributed over $87 million to India's GDP and produced over 20,600 local full-time equivalent employees in 2022 alone.

Amazon thinks this is a big step forward for the environment and a sign of how committed it is to India's economic and environmental goals. Amazon India is "ecstatic to continue contributing to India's economic and environmental goals in furtherance of Amazon's mission to become a more sustainable enterprise," according to Abhinav Singh, vice president of operations at the organization.
