9 Indian states among the top 50 climate-vulnerable regions in the globe

According to a new study announced on February 20, nine of the 50 places in the globe experiencing significant climate risk to a weak physical infrastructure are in India. Bihar (22nd), Uttar Pradesh (25th), Assam (28th), Rajasthan (32nd), Tamil Nadu (36th), Maharashtra (38th), Gujarat (48th), Punjab (50th), and Kerala (52nd) are among the most susceptible in the country, with the index indicating that Mumbai, the country's financial hub, is also at danger.

The Cross Dependency Initiative (XDI), a global organisation specialising in climate risk research for regions, banks, and businesses, issued the paper titled "Gross Domestic Climate Risk" on Monday. The index evaluated the worldwide 'physical climate risk' to built environments such as buildings and assets in 2050 across 2,600 states and provinces.

"This is the first time a physical climate risk study has been focused only on the built environment, comparing every state, province, and territory in the world," XDI CEO Rohan Hamden said in a statement on Monday. "Since vast constructed infrastructure is typically associated with significant levels of economic activity and capital value, it is critical that the physical risk of climate change be correctly acknowledged and priced."
