The study reported alarming air quality figures due to an increase in human-induced activities and urbanization. The researchers highlighted an annual increase of up to 14 percent for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and up to 8 percent for fine particles (PM2.5) which is severely harmful to human health. They also reported a spike of 12 percent ammonia and up to 11 percent for reactive volatile organic compounds in the air.

The number of premature deaths due to exposure to excessive air pollution is found to be the highest in South Asia. The researcher mentioned that the numbers will possibly cross the highest mark in the coming decade due to the constant deterioration of air quality caused by humans.
