While, according to a Boston Consulting Group (BCG) estimate, artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to eliminate 5-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, which is comparable to the total yearly emissions of the European Union. This highlights the transformative power of AI in sustainability efforts.


Climate modeling, energy management, renewable energy optimization, and resilience to extreme weather events are just a few of the main areas where AI can assist. By embracing the promise of AI, industries may make data-driven decisions to increase sustainability and reduce their carbon impact.


Leaders in the technology industry emphasize the importance of responsible AI, which ensures that AI solutions are aligned with long-term objectives. This involves considering the environmental impact of data centers and cloud technologies and encouraging the adoption of low-carbon materials.


Collaboration and creativity are required to move sustainability efforts forward. The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry, which accounts for around 3% of total emissions, has the potential to reduce emissions by up to 20% through technological means. Energy efficiency and consumption reduction can contribute significantly to sustainability goals.
