Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the eco-friendly permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Sambalpur, Odisha.
This 200-acre campus, built by NBCC, boasts 32 buildings with a total built-up area of 64,000 square meters. Sustainability stands at the core of its design, evident in features like 100% daylit living spaces minimizing artificial lighting use, treated wastewater reused for irrigation and flushing, and rooftop solar panels, solar water heating systems, and solar street lights contributing to reduced power consumption.
The December 23, 2023, inauguration ceremony saw dignitaries like Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik grace the occasion. Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of education and innovation, expressing his hope that this IIM campus would shape India's future.
Accommodating 1,200 students, the sprawling campus features a state-of-the-art academic block, a library, an auditorium, and residential facilities for students and faculty. Further enriching the experience are green spaces like a botanical garden and a rainwater harvesting pond.
This IIM Sambalpur campus marks a significant addition to India's educational landscape. Offering high-quality management education to students nationwide, it's expected to not only boost the regional economy but also empower future generations with valuable skills and knowledge.
