Gurugram-based ReNew Power and Microsoft India have agreed to a renewable energy arrangement for 150 MW. ReNew Power identifies itself as India's top provider of renewable energy. According to ReNew Power's official announcement, it is one of the biggest deals made of its kind in India.
ReNew Power is an independent power producer (IPP) that designs, constructs, acquires, and manages wind, solar, and hydropower projects to supply energy to Indian and international corporations and utilities. ReNew had a gross total portfolio of 13.4 GW of renewable energy projects, including commissioned and committed projects, spread across India as of September 30, 2022.
The agreement between ReNew Power and Microsoft states that ReNew will generate 150 MW of sustainable energy from a recently operational solar plant close to Bikaner. This agreement shows that businesses worldwide, including those in India, are increasingly incorporating renewable energy into every aspect of their operations. Additionally, this alliance paves the path for cutting-edge business models that will hasten the energy transition.
ReNew Power and Microsoft Renewable Energy Milestone
By 2025, Microsoft wants to run entirely on renewable energy, and by 2030, it wants to become carbon negative. It just reached an arrangement with Google to use renewable energy in its IT operations to reduce its carbon footprint. Additionally, it stated that after a trial run in Latham, New York, it determined that hydrogen fuel cells were a superior solution for supplying electricity to its data centers.
The arrangement was discussed by ReNew Power Chairman and CEO Sumant Sinha "Microsoft is renowned for its environmental awareness, sustainable business practices, and position as a worldwide climate leader in the corporate sector. ReNew Power is thrilled and happy to cooperate with Microsoft. In order to achieve Microsoft's goal of switching to 100% renewable energy by 2025, this project will help."
"We are thrilled to cooperate with ReNew Power to accomplish our sustainability aims and also to help our clients and partners on their sustainability journey," said Dr. Rohini, National Technology Officer for Microsoft India.
