Amid ongoing monsoon rains, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for seven districts in Himachal Pradesh, signaling a "very high risk" of heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslides. Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for three districts in the state. The IMD has also issued orange and red alerts for Uttarakhand, highlighting the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh have been placed under a yellow alert by the weather department.
In Himachal Pradesh, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in several districts, including Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Una, Hamirpur, Mandi, and Kullu. Isolated areas may experience very heavy rainfall, while light to moderate showers are anticipated in other districts. As a precautionary measure, schools and colleges in the affected regions will remain closed on July 10 and 11. Delhi, which recently witnessed its highest July rainfall in over four decades, is currently under a yellow alert. Waterlogging has resulted in traffic disruptions, with roads and underpasses being inundated. The water level in the Yamuna river has also risen, prompting authorities to issue warnings.
In Uttarakhand, the District Magistrate of Dehradun has ordered the closure of all government and non-government schools, as well as Anganwadi centers, for classes 1 to 12 on July 10 due to heavy downpours.These alerts highlight the need for residents to remain cautious and take necessary precautions in the face of heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides. The IMD continues to monitor the weather situation and issue timely updates to ensure the safety of the affected regions.
