The campaign's inauguration ceremony was held at Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Park, graced by renowned musician Dr. Salil Kulkarni and Dr. Kunal Khemnar, Pune Municipal Additional Commissioner. The response from the public was overwhelming, with approximately 7500 citizens actively contributing to the initiative by bringing their household waste to designated collection centers.
The campaign proved highly successful, collecting a staggering 53 tonnes of waste in total. This included 40 tonnes of e-waste, consisting of discarded electronics like computers and laptops. These items will undergo a process of responsible refurbishment, with functional devices finding new homes in schools and with students in need. The remaining e-waste, along with the collected 13 tonnes of plastic, will be disposed of through scientifically sound methods by government-approved recyclers.
"Pehel-2024" serves as a testament to the collective power of community action in addressing environmental concerns. This collaborative effort not only facilitated proper waste disposal but also highlighted the importance of responsible waste management practices for a cleaner and healthier future.
