The central government has already ordered to ban several single-use plastic items from 1st July. The regulation passed under the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules, 2021 prohibits manufacturing, importing, stocking, distribution, sale and use of identified single-use plastic items, which have low utility and high littering potential, all across the nation. The ban on some single-use plastic items came into effect on Friday. Simultaneously, the state governments have launched a campaign to identify and shut down units engaged in the production, distribution, storage and sale of such items.

The Norwegian Embassy said in a tweet that in support of India's decision to ban single-use plastic items, the embassy has decided to stop the use of such material.
