To boost up the Electric Vehicle policy in the state, the Maharashtra government have decided to only opt for electric vehicles for transportation in all the government offices, local bodies and municipal corporation departments from 1 January 2022.
According to the state's EV policy, the decision was planned to be implemented from April 2022 but the state Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray announced that to keep our commitment to clean mobility and encouraging citizens towards purchasing the electric vehicles the policy implementation to be rolled out from January onwards only.
Last year Maharastra government has introduced its Electric Vehicle policy 2021 aiming at supporting sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation solutions in the state.
The decision is not only focused on using only electric vehicles by the government offices and the major civic bodies in the state but also aims to accelerate the adoption of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)s such that they contribute to 10% of new vehicle registrations by 2025, stated by a government official.
