The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) presented the Changemaker Award to Satya Bharti School in Lakhowal for its excellent efforts in raising environmental awareness and constructing an eco-friendly campus.
At the Green Schools Programme ceremony on January 30, 199 of India's 5,300 schools were certified as 'green'.
Two schools, Satya Bharti School in Lakhowal and PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Ordnance Factory in Katni, received Changemaker Awards for their outstanding sustainability initiatives.
Satya Bharti School in Ludhiana established itself as the only "changemaker" in Punjab, transitioning from a yellow to a green rating through activities such as using public transportation to cut carbon emissions.
The school implemented a variety of environmentally friendly initiatives, including separate waste bins, energy-efficient lighting, and promoting public transportation and bicycles.
Students contribute to sustainability by gardening with rainwater and wastewater, and the school encourages healthy eating by serving homemade meals and avoiding commercial items.
For the past 19 years, CSE has led the Green Schools Programme, which helps schools through environmental audits and encourages green practices.
