The Italian G7 Presidency, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), highlighted the importance of new multi-stakeholder partnerships to increase local effects in developing countries.

Key themes include democratizing computing power, creating open and secure data models, and building capacity to enhance AI for sustainable development. These efforts strive to assure fair, inclusive, and responsible access to AI while also promoting safe, secure, and trustworthy development and deployment.

The Italian G7 Presidency and the Brazilian G20 Presidency are both promoting debate and action, with AI designated as a shared goal for sustainable development. UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner highlighted the importance of this agreement, adding that bridging the gap between global conversation and local impact is critical. The Italian G7 Presidency and UNDP will continue to collaborate with African countries in 2024 to co-design an AI Hub for Sustainable Development, which will include technology sector players and start-ups dedicated to furthering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
