In an attempt to bring a positive environmental change into the society, the Khairtabad authorities have decided to build the Ganesha idol eco-friendly by replacing PoP with clay.
The massive 50ft Ganesh idol which is named ‘Panchamukhi Mahalakshmi Ganapathi’ will be made from the clay specially brought from Kolkata. The initiative is aimed to act as an inspiration to other mandaps in the city to opt for an eco-friendly alternative to building Ganesha idols.
The clay for the idol will be lab tested and the layers of clay will be used to strengthen the idol which will require about 3-4 weeks to complete. Apart from the building material the watercolours used to decorate the idols will be organic to maintain the eco-friendly objective.
The organiser of the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee Raj Kumar announced that to curb the water pollution, this year the idol will be melted and distributed to the devotees instead of immersing in the Hussainsagar
