Haryana is leveraging renewable energy to gain a competitive advantage in sustainable development by reducing global warming and carbon emissions.
Dr. Saket Kumar, Managing Director of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, highlighted the challenges of strengthening electricity distribution infrastructure, including timely replacement and upgrading of aging infrastructure, meeting infrastructure demand due to rapid urbanization and population growth, ensuring reliable power supply, implementing grievance redressal mechanisms, combating electricity theft, and correcting billing and collection efficiencies.
Haryana's flagship Mhara Gaon Jagmag Gaon (MGJG) Scheme has contributed to addressing these concerns. The effort has greatly improved rural power infrastructure, such as LV distribution networks and meters. Customers have received installation payments and fee waivers. This has boosted UHBVN's average RDS feeder running hours to 21 hours 9 minutes in fiscal year 2022-23, up from 12 hours 40 minutes in FY 2016-17. Furthermore, AT&T's losses decreased from 30.75% to 10.32%.
