Coal India to invest Rs. 24,750 crores in eco-friendly projects

Coal India plans to invest Rs. 24,750 crore on 61 first-mile connectivity (FMC) projects. FMC projects involve the transportation of coal in mechanized piped conveyors from production points to coal handling plants/silos with a rapid loading system where coal is loaded directly into rail wagons.

This type of transportation is much more efficient and environmentally friendly than traditional methods, such as truck transport. It reduces dust pollution, carbon emissions, and noise pollution. It also reduces the risk of accidents.

The article also states that Coal India has already commissioned eight FMC projects with a capacity of 112 MTPA. The company plans to commission another 17 projects with a capacity of 178 MTPA by the end of FY 2024. The remaining 10 projects with a capacity of 124.5 MTPA are expected to be commissioned by FY 2025.

Once all of these projects are operational, Coal India will be able to transport more than 900 MTPA of coal using eco-friendly methods. This will be a significant reduction in the environmental impact of the company's operations.
