The UN Human Rights Council has declared access to a clean and healthy environment is an inalienable human right. This declaration was passed by UNHRC on October 8 while highlighting the global mitigation and adaptation measures against climate change. Along these lines, the UNHRC has also called upon nations to boost their abilities to promote a clean and green environment.
The resolution has come out just in time before the COP26 to be held in Glasgow later this month and will go to UN General Assembly in New York for further consideration. As per WHO, nearly 13.7 million deaths every year are directly or indirectly linked to climate change and environmental factors.
