Running barefoot on the sweltering Middle Eastern earth, the 34-year-old athlete covered 104 kilometers in 17 hours and 20 minutes. Nambiar, a Keralite from Bengaluru, hoped to build on the excitement generated by COP28, the climate change summit held in early December.

Nambiar detailed his journey, which includes prominent Dubai spots such as Love Lake, Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab, Kite Beach, Jumeirah Beach, La Mer Beach, Etihad Museum, and the Museum of the Future, in an Instagram post. He emphasized the importance of addressing climate change and advocating a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, running barefoot to emphasize the message's urgency. Nambiar stressed the urgency of moving quickly to limit global warming to 1.5°C, especially in light of the recent conclusion of COP28 in Dubai.

The runner's incredible effort struck a chord with internet users, with several expressing gratitude for having met him throughout his marathon. Others praised his dedication to environmental awareness and living a sustainable lifestyle. Nambiar's distinct jogging technique, dubbed 'Barefoot Mallu,' drew attention, and people praised his commitment to conveying the message of environmental conservation.

Nambiar began his marathon at Love Lake in Al Qudra and traveled to several Dubai sites until arriving at the Burj Khalifa at midnight. Despite being new to Dubai, he struggled with navigation, relying on Google Maps and advocating for pedestrian walkways on highways and major roads. Throughout his route, Nambiar had nice exchanges with local cyclists, who praised the city's warmth and world-class pedestrian infrastructure.
