The 2.5 m wide bi-directional cycle lane is spread across a 1.5 km stretch. Three designs have been finalised for testing. The design has X-shaped separators which are made from recycled plastic to lower the carbon footprint as the traditional cycle lane separators are made from long plastic bollards.

DULT commissioner reported that a budget of 18-20 lakhs is allotted to the design company to develop the unique separators for the pilot project. The Co-founder of Elemental Motor Works, the designing company of the X-shaped separators, Piyush Verma highlighted that as per the requirement the separators prevent water logging, are made of recycled plastic instead of metal and hence they have a low carbon footprint and are theft-proof.

The separators are designed in a way that the angle of the X can be changed and the height is also adjustable. “The yellow stripes on the separators are reflectors with 50 per cent reflective coating and will be visible at night as well,” he added.
