According to the British Geological Survey, carbon storage and capture entails catching CO2 produced by power plants burning coal, compressing it, pumping it away from the facility, and then storing or burying it deep underground. According to the survey, companies such as Chevron paid $1.8 million on advertisements on the Chinese social video app TikTok, which received 188 million views for over 34 sponsored films. Simultaneously, the Canadian multinational energy company is advertising on YouTube.

According to data from Meta's Ad Library, they are using this greenwashing technique to make people believe that they are trying to combat gas emissions. People are getting deceived indirectly by governments, as the data we can see available is mostly advised by political governments and focused on the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.

Despite the fact that fossil fuel firms are supporting climate change measures through greenwashing, they are neglecting the fact that technology is not the greatest solution to solve problems because it is not expansible and budget-friendly. The new method of combating climate change by capturing carbon can benefit specific industries and be used to weaken net-zero ambitions and justify investments in oil, natural gas, and other polluting fuels.
