The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) held the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (RFSD) in Geneva, with the theme 'Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Economic Commission for Europe region in times of multiple crises: The effective delivery of sustainable, resilient, and innovative solutions.'
The forum brought together a diverse range of stakeholders to catalyse action, identify solutions, and encourage peer learning in order to accomplish long-term reform in the UNECE region. The latest SDG Progress Report, issued by the UNECE Statistical Division in collaboration with the Regional Coordination Group on Data and Statistics for Europe and Central Asia, aided talks.
Tatiana Molcean, Executive Secretary of the UNECE, urged more efforts to improve women's participation in regional decision-making. She emphasised the importance of robust, inclusive institutions and enhanced gender equality. Belen Sanz, UN Women's Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, attended the Civil Society Forum ahead of RFSD 2024 and spoke with more than 30 civil society representatives. UN Women helped organise three peer-learning roundtables to ensure that a gender perspective was incorporated in talks.
The theme for the Civil Society Forum 2024 was "Pathways to Progress: Regional Voices Shaping 2030."
