The Union government of Tamil Nadu has decided to share three green projects at COP 28 which is going to be held from 30th November to 12th December.
After considering the ongoing climate crisis globally, the Urban Affairs and Union Ministry of Housing has selected seven projects in order to combat the environmental issues.
According to Supriya Sahu, the Additional Chief Secretary to the government's Environment, Climate Change, and Forests Department, this acknowledgment demonstrates the distinctiveness and potential of these projects. The COP28 discussion session, scheduled for December 6, will focus on "Multilevel Action, Urbanisation & Built Environment, Transport."
The Meendum Manjappai campaign, launched in 2021 by Chief Minister M K Stalin, has made significant progress in encouraging the use of cloth bags while cracking down on single-use plastics. Notable are the installation of 92 Manjappai vending machines, as well as strong enforcement tactics that resulted in the recovery of 560 tonnes of single-use plastics and the collection of Rs 7.2 crore in fines.
The TNGCC, on the other hand, is leading climate action as a Special Purpose Vehicle, with an emphasis on mega climate change initiatives and greening projects. This includes the creation of the TN Green Climate Fund and plans for a Rs 2,000 crore TN Coastal Restoration Mission, which will run from 2024 to 2029, with World Bank money complementing the state's commitment of Rs 600 crore. The projects demonstrate Tamil Nadu's commitment to global environmental goals and will be reviewed with other globally significant initiatives.
