On International Women's Day, a group of twenty-six Nepali women activists, including a beauty queen, embarked on a historic expedition to Mount Everest's base camp.
The Sath Sathai Foundation organized the event, which aimed to promote conservation and climate justice while empowering women. Their objective was to raise awareness about the dire repercussions of melting snow in the Himalayas due to climate change.
At the base camp, the women signed a seven-point declaration urging governments to prioritize the conservation of Mt. Everest and the Himalayan ranges. They noted the need for local initiatives and international collaboration in addressing climate challenges. They also stressed the necessity of women's involvement in climate action and the promotion of sustainable tourism in the region.
The expedition, which included Miss Nepal Srichchha Pradhan, highlighted the critical need for collective action to prevent the negative consequences of climate change on local populations and ecosystems. This voyage highlights the critical role that women play in environmental conservation and sustainable development around the world.
