The Japan Foreign Cooperation Agency (JICA) is a major foreign aid organisation that has had a big effect on India's progress towards development.
The Achhi Aadat (Good Habit) Campaign, which began in January 2021, is one of its most important projects. Its goal is to make people more aware of how important cleanliness is in fighting COVID-19 and other contagious diseases. By March 2023, the program had reached 12.4 crore people, and in FY2023, it reached over 1 lakh more.
JICA has been working with India since 1958, when it gave the country an 18-billion yen concessional ODA loan to help carry out the Second Five-Year Plan. As of December 2023, JICA had promised over JPY 7,861.2 billion (about INR 462,423.5 crores) in ODA loans for growth in many areas. Through technical cooperation, providing grants and concessional loans, sending experts and volunteers, and forming partnerships with the business sector, JICA's work in India has helped the economy grow, reduce poverty, and protect the environment.
JICA signed loan deals worth a total of 232.2 billion yen in February 2023 for nine projects. These projects included promoting start-up ecosystems, sustainable horticulture, the North East Road Network Connectivity Improvement Project, and improving the water supply system in cities in Uttarakhand.
