A resident of Adityapur, Jyoti Bala, has created a paint that is both environmentally friendly and made from cow poo.
This paint has many advantages over traditional paints derived from chemicals. When sprayed to walls, the paint—a combination of cow dung, water, corn flour, castor oil and natural gum—reduces room temperature by 3 to 4 degrees and doesn't create any nasty odour. Not only that, it's a natural thermal insulator, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial, and completely devoid of harmful components and heavy metals. Under the name "Natural Paint," Bala's processing factory was established at Hathimara village, Seraikela Kharsawan district, with the support of her husband, Manoj Kumar.
In addition to employing young people in the community, the venture also involves local families in the process of collecting cow dung. Funded by Khadi Gramudyog and KVIC, the project showcases how cottage companies may tackle both economic and environmental issues.
