Last week the Indian Health Ministry launched 'Mental Health Awareness Campaign Week' as the world observed World Mental Health Day on Oct 10.
During the launch event, Union Health minister Mansukh Mandviya highlighted the need to spread awareness among citizens & urged the youth to participate in the initiative. "We need to have conversations on mental health issues first within the family and gradually include the school environment too", he said.
The initiative by the Indian government aims to encourage people’s participation to break the stigma around mental disorders. While addressing the event, the union minister said, “Mental wellbeing is an essential component of holistic health and spreading awareness about this issue will go a long way in addressing the stigma surrounding it”.
