People are utilizing clean energy and shunning the use of fossil fuels for power generation as a result of growing concerns about climate change worldwide. Following the same path, India's financial center, Mumbai is now slated to become the first city in the nation to get a solar plant for residential society.
The first solar power plant in India will be built by Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited in Himayatnagar to supply solar energy to a residential community in Mahalaxmi, Mumbai.
India’s Clean Energy Transaction
The project is anticipated to be completed by October 2023, which will give the city a huge boost in the adoption of renewable energy.
According to project officials, the plant will produce a total of 3 megawatts of solar power, which will be used to meet the housing society's energy needs.Residents will be able to use 60% of the solar energy supplied to them to meet their energy needs, saving them 40% on their electricity bills once the pioneering project is put into operation. Consumers would obtain the remaining 35% of their energy from conventional sources.
Numerous Advantages Of Residential Society
In addition, the solar power plant would produce 7.5 million energy units and prevent 6.15 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere in its first year of operation. In the "group-captive" model, a solar project is developed for the collective use of a residential or housing society, and for that, the society will first need to sign an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the power supplier, according to Tata Power officials, Times Now reported.
The solar plant would be built, developed, operated, and maintained by Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited. The project is anticipated to significantly increase the city's production of clean energy. To positively impact climate change, a number of other housing societies are preparing to carry out the same project.
