The German Embassy and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) launched the 'GSDP Conversation Series' in New Delhi.
The series will focus on triangular cooperation between India and Germany to deliver localized answers to global environmental concerns. The initiative, which began in May 2022 with an agreement signed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, aims to promote renewable energy, green hydrogen, climate-friendly cities, electric vehicle use, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, sustainability transformation, plastic waste reduction, and innovation in reusable product design.
The GSDP is consistent with key global goals such as the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. The GSDP's major aims are encouraging renewables and green hydrogen, creating climate-friendly communities, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, reforming agriculture and food systems, reducing plastic waste, and fostering innovation and business models for reusable items.
Germany has committed at least 10 billion euros to support India under the GSDP until 2030, with more than EUR 2 billion set aside for 2022 and 2023 in initiatives involving sustainable natural resource use, renewable energy transition, and green urban development. Under the Triangular Cooperation project, India and Germany will cooperate with nations in Asia, Africa, and the Indo-Pacific region to develop a framework for sharing experiences and expertise in achieving climate and sustainability goals.
The Conversation Series will continue in several Indian cities six times a year, and the German government intends to build a dedicated GSDP website and dashboard in 2024.
