IBM is stepping up its commitment to tackling climate change by pledging up to $45 million over the next five years. This initiative focuses on bolstering the resilience of cities in the face of a changing climate.
The company plans to achieve this through a two-pronged approach:
Increased Investment: IBM will significantly increase its investment in the IBM Sustainability Accelerator program by 50%. This translates to $45 million in combined cash and in-kind donations to support the program's goals.
New Request for Proposal (RFP): A new RFP has been launched, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 11: building safe, resilient, and sustainable cities. This program invites proposals from non-profit and government organizations focused on urban climate adaptation and city resilience.
Organizations working on these critical issues can apply through the online portal until April 30, 2024. Selected participants will be announced later this year, allowing them to leverage IBM's resources and expertise to enhance their climate adaptation efforts.
This initiative signifies IBM's dedication to fostering a more sustainable future. By supporting innovative solutions and empowering communities, IBM aims to equip cities with the tools they need to adapt to the challenges of climate change.
