A study published in the International Journal of Climatology (IJC) has concluded the emergence of new heatwave hotspots in the north-western, central, and south-central parts of the Indian subcontinent.
A link has been established between heatwaves and their impact on human health, agriculture, and the natural ecosystem has been also highlighted in the study. An alarming southward expansion and spatial surge in heatwave events were observed in the research. This has greater implications as it puts a large population at risk of heat stress and high temperatures. Delhi, Punjab, & Haryana witnessed record temperatures this year as monsoons were delayed.
